Teaching Philosophy
As a literature teacher influenced by my work as a director and scholar of early modern texts, I work with three concrete goals: to provide the students with models for their own use of language, to help them understand the complex relationship between literature and culture, and to assist them in developing political literacy through an examination of social issues in the texts we read. My ultimate aim, however, is to instill in my students an appreciation for literature that will enrich their lives regardless of their future careers. My experience as a Shakespearean director provides me with unique methods of cultivating the engagement these goals require.
